RUSSIA
Perhaps no nation has had a greater impact on changing the public perception of garnet than Russia, for it is here that the chrome green demantoid garnet was first found. The date was 1853, the place was the Ural Mountains, and from that moment on garnet joined the ranks as one of the most expensive and desirable of precious stones.
The great St. Petersburg jeweler, House of Fabergé, was quick to make use of these emerald-green jewels, a tradition that continues to this day. And ground beneath the vast Ural taiga continues to yield pebbles that are fashioned into glittering green gems.
