For centuries, India’s Maharajas collected priceless gems and jewelry. Lavina Melwani (Little India) explained that the maharajas had such an appetite for jewelry that when the British refused to let them wear western-style crowns, they simply wore tiaras over their turbans. It’s therefore no surprise that some of the biggest spinel treasures today can be found in India.
