From Rough to Cut: Merelani Mint

Cutting a piece of rough is always a trick. No matter how thoroughly you study the material, the result cannot be foreseen. You only dare hope that the faceted gem will be not less beautiful than the original rough. And the hope itself is rewarding.

A new pocket of garnet was recently found in the famous Merelani mine in Tanzania.
In its rough state, the grossular crystal of 22.96cts exhibited a well-favored neon minty green color and great clarity.

 

Once cut, the garnet has revealed its true nature.
