A King who left the throne for his wife

In 1936 Edward VIII, the king of the United Kingdom, abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson.
The lucky wife had one of the most splendid jewelry collections in the 20th century.
Every two weeks or so the ex-monarch presented a new piece of jewelry to his love.

The Duke himself was crazy about jewelry and fashion. He bought rare stones and created his own jewelry for the Duchess.
Their famous 19.76 carat Emerald engagement ring says: "Now we are our 27 X 36".
A platinum necklace with diamonds and a ruby tassel, where the Duke engraved "My Wallis from her book David 19.VI.36" was also very symbolic.
Wallis's favorite Cartier cross pendant bracelet: a chain of diamonds with nine platinum crosses inlaid with precious stones.
The couple was fond of animals, hence the collection of brooches and bracelets shaped as flamingos, tigers and panthers.
King Edward VIII became the first British Monarch who voluntarily left the throne to marry an alien woman.

"You can never be too rich or too thin.”
Duchess of Windsor, 19.06.1896 – 24.04.1986
