BURMA Old Film: 1999 Rare Archive of Myanmar Gemstone Trade and Lifestyle by Vlad Yavorskyy
The first filming of my 25 years’ Gem Journey
"This is Burma, and it will be quite unlike any land you know about" Rudyard Kipling, "From Sea to Sea"
“When I first came here, it was love at first sight. And when it comes to love, I am steady and consistent, even if my passion doesn’t ignite immediately. In love I give myself fully. By now I have poured the largest part of my time, money and energy into Burma – and my heart - above all my heart. The country refused to accept me for a long time – as it would with any foreigner. For the first five years, local dealers wouldn’t even show me their stones, let alone sell them. I struggled with the local food, language, housing, roads and floods...an exotic alien, a crazy guy who devoured all their previously unwanted spinels, a “Ukrainian” whose real name they have never managed to pronounce even after twenty years... In Burma, wherever I’ve been for twenty years, I’ve always felt like home. With their pure Buddhist childlike attitude to life, they treat every human being with sincere joy and grace ...with their smile stretched not from the face, but from the heart.”
“The most precious gems of Burma are its people, nature, culture, history and its mysterious spirit, which inspired me to create BURMA GEMS BOOK”
